Gunite Construction

Gunite is a process of applying concrete to structure. Gunite comes in two basic forms: a dry gun and a wet gun.

Pools Unlimited Inc. uses the wet gun method, also known as shotcrete, which uses premixed concrete. This mixture is pumped to a nozzle where air is induced, which allows the material to be placed "shot" in the walls and floor of the structure. Computers are used to control the concrete mixture using a pre-designed mix which can be adjusted on site. Gunite mixture is composed of cement, sand, water and an aggragate. The aggregate gives the concrete mixture a means to join and solidify.

Permit

In most cities, permits are required in order for the pool to be built according to local codes and ordinances. After the permit has been issued, the pool must be laid out to the homeowner's satisfaction.

 Construction

We then paint the exact shape of the pool and determine the final elevation in order for the depths of the  pool to be controlled as the pool is excavated.

Next the forming and steel work begin, forming will be installed to make the exact shape. Pools Unlimited  Inc. then will place the rebar "steel" reinforcement bars to exceed minimum standards to insure a  structurally sound pool. After the forming and steel are complete, the set up of the equipment is done for  gunite work to begin. In some cases pending the size of the pool and the degree of difficulty, the floor may  be poured next with the gunite work to follow.

Clean up, grading and pool piping begin after the gunite shell is completed. After the pool has been piped  and has passed a pressure test, the water line tile and coping will be installed. The next step is the deck  layout and electrical rough in to take place. The pool deck is placed after the electrical inspector has  passsed the electrical rough in. Following the deck placement, the filter system will be installed and  electrical wiring completed and tested to satisfaction.

At last the pool is ready for the final stage. The interior finish is plastered and water added on the same day  as plaster. On a average 24 to 36 hours after the pool has been plastered, an appointment is set up with  the customer for final instructions and orientation of the pool's operation.
